FLOR500, Garden 419 Betty Mae Jumper, Seminole Community Leader (1923–2011) Betty Mae Tiger Jumper was the first Florida Seminole to learn to read and write in English. She made it her lifelong goal to provide service to her people. In 1967 she became the first female chair of the Seminole Tribe of Florida ushering in an era of education, prosperity and healthcare for the Tribe.
